Itinerary

Welcome to Uzbekistan!

You’ll be greeted you at the airport and taken straight to your hotel to freshen up and rest a little.

In the afternoon we’ll take you to Chorsu Bazaar, Tashkent’s central market and possibly the best way to get introduced to Uzbek culture. You’ll have the chance to sample plov, somsa, lagman and so much more!

Once you’ve had the chance to explore and enjoy some authentic local food, we’ll take you around the old part of Tashkent to begin our journey of discovering Islam in Central Asia.

Today you’ll travel in style in a fast train to the Crown Jewel of Uzbekistan, where you’ll explore some of the most incredible Islamic architecture in the world. You’ll follow in the footsteps of Silk Road traders, Mongol raiders and martyrs. Our local guide will share stories about some of the legends who lived in Samarkand, including the Mufassir and connoisseur of Fiqh, Imam al Maturidi.

Once our local guide has taken you around Registan Square, the Shah i Zinda and Hazrat Khizr mosque, you’ll have the opportunity to experience an activity exclusively created upon the request of Halal Travel Guide.

You’ll have the chance to learn traditional Islamic calligraphy from a master craftsman inside the world-famous Ulug-Beg Madrasa, and even have a go yourself.

It’s only been a few decades that the burial site of Imam al Bukhari, the famous Muhaddith who we all know and love for leaving us records of our beloved Messenger peace be upon him, has been recovered.

We’ll stop at Gijduvon town to visit the madrasa dedicated to Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Ghijduvani, and learn more about the development of Sufism in Central Asia.

The Town of Gijduvon is famous for its pottery, and you’ll see why during lunch when you are invited to see how a master craftsman performs this art at an Uzbek pottery masterclass.

Before heading into Bukhara we’ll make one final stop to learn more about the role of Bahauddin Naqshabandi in the spread of Islam in Uzbekistan.

By now you’ll have noticed that the Uzbeks are incredibly talented artists and craftsmen and women, ranging from weaving and embroidery to pottery, calligraphy, painting and silk rug making. You’re invited to share in this heritage today by learning more about and trying on traditional dress in the 1500-year-old Ark Fortress.

Before this though, our local guide will walk you through the ancient streets of Bukhara, where you’ll visit some of the most important historical sites in the region’s Islamic history.

This morning you’ll have some time to yourself so have a lie-in, get some authentic hand-made souvenirs or just explore the ancient centre of Bukhara at your own pace.

For lunch you’re invited to enjoy the company of a local family, who will share with you the Uzbek love for plov.

Bonus activity: We’ll take you to the world-famous workshop of a master craftsman who produces something you won’t find anywhere else…

This evening we’ll be taking a short internal flight back to Tashkent.

Book now, pay later policy: To confirm your space all you need to do is complete the booking form and pay a £60 deposit. That’s it! You’ll receive an instant email confirming your booking with us.

Full and final payment will be requested no later than 4 weeks before your trip departure date. Should your trip not take place due to Covid-19 restrictions, don’t worry – your deposit will not be lost. You can cancel your spot and transfer your deposit onto the next available trip.

Non-Covid related cancellations: Of course, we understand that sometimes life happens and things don’t go to plan. That’s why you can cancel your reservation up to 6 weeks before the departure date without being charged for your ticket price. We’ll keep your £60 deposit payment to cover the administrative costs associated with the cancellation of your booking.

We reserve the right to cancel the tour up to 40 days before departure which is possible in rare circumstances. In the unlikely event this is necessary and you have already booked your flights, we can make alternative arrangements for you to visit Uzbekistan upon request.

Travel insurance: You are responsible for ensuring you have appropriate travel insurance (including health cover) in place before the trip starts.

We’ll leave Bukhara today, but first, we'll stop at Gijduvon town to visit the madrasa dedicated to Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Ghijduvani, and learn more about the learn more about the spread and preservation of Islam in Central Asia.

The Town of Gijduvon is famous for its pottery, and you’ll see why during lunch when you are invited to see how a master craftsman performs this art at an Uzbek pottery masterclass.

The highlight of the day will be heading to Aydarkul Lake where you’ll have the chance to ride camels, horses, go fishing or just enjoy the scenic views. Tonight you’ll spend the night under the stars at this once in a lifetime nomad yurt camp experience.

This morning you'll have some free time to soak up your natural surroundings, before we begin the journey to the jewel of Uzbekistan: Samarkand.

On the way we'll stop to pay our respects to another jewel, this time a person - the famous collector of hadiths, Imam al Bukhari. The adventure trips are for 10 years old upwards, though we can allow slightly younger children depending on which trip you are looking at. Once you book a trip, we will schedule a call with you to run through what you can expect from the trip, including how active it is.

For the ladies-only trips there is no upper age limit, but you are required to have some level of fitness and be comfortable with long-distance travel.
