Day 1:
Dobrodošli! Welcome to Bosnia!
You'll be greeted at Sarajevo Airport where our private vehicle will be waiting to collect you. We'll take you straight to the hotel to check-in and freshen up, before heading out for our first meal together in the Old Town. Once we're all fed and watered, you'll explore the ancient streets of the Bascarsija on our private walking tour.
Day 2:
Today you will walk in the footsteps of the brave citizens of Sarajevo, many of whom lived and survived the longest siege of a capital city in modern history. You'll have a chance to learn real-life stories about what the locals lived through...
We'll then take you for some equine therapy at a horse-riding session, before we begin the scenic drive to Mostar. We'll stop for lunch along the way in Jablanica, before we arrive at the hotel in Mostar. Tonight you'll have some free time to explore the Old Town at your own pace, and maybe even stock up on some souvenirs; look out for the unique bullet pens and traditional copper coffee sets.
Day 3:
If you complete Fajr prayer in the local mosque you’ll have a chance to enjoy the peace and quiet of this historic Ottoman town. It wasn’t always this peaceful; as we take you through the town today, our guide will tell you all about why it was such a symbolic place for fighters during the war. We will walk across the rebuilt Stari Most, a legacy that dates back to the time of Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
We'll then drive you to Blagaj, where an historic Ottoman Dervish House resides nestled in the white-streaked cliffs. Here we'll take lunch at one of the most scenic restaurants in the country. After lunch, we'll take you to our final stop of the day -also an Ottoman historical site - where you'll enjoy some of the best views in all of Herzegovina.
Day 4:
This morning we'll check out of our hotel in Mostar and drive straight to Sarajevo, in time for Jumuah in one of the oldest Ottoman mosques in the Old Town.
After lunch, you'll have the option to enjoy some free time in the Bascarsija, or we can organise a ski session for you on Sarajevo's famous slopes!
Day 5:
This morning it's time to say farewell. We'll organise your transportation to the airport to catch your flight back home.
Spring/Summer/Autumn 2020
Highlights include:
- Free time to explore Dubrovnik's Old Town in Croatia
- Day trip to visit to Srebrenica memorial site
- Rafting session on the Neretva river (June only) OR boat trip in Jablanica (April and October).
- Lunch and prayer at Ottoman Dervish House in Blagaj (pictured at the top of this page!)
- Walking tour of the Bascarsija and Old Town in Mostar
Day 1:
You will be greeted at the airport where our private vehicle will be waiting to collect you. If you're arriving on the morning flight, we'll take you into Dubrovnik's Old Town for a day of exploring the famous city at your own pace. Perhaps you'll take a boat ride onto the sparkling blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, or walk along the old castle walls of King's Landing. We’ll then begin the scenic drive from Croatia into Bosnia. We’ll stop for our first meal together, and then head on to an old Ottoman fortress to enjoy one of the best views over Herzegovina. This first night will be spent in the historic town of Mostar, a fairytale town of cobblestone alleys, Ottoman bridges and the stunning Neretva river.
Day 2:
If you complete Fajr prayer in the local mosque you’ll have a chance to enjoy the peace and quiet of this historic Ottoman town. It wasn’t always this peaceful; as we take you through the town today, our guide will tell you all about why it was such a symbolic place for fighters during the war. We will walk across the rebuilt Stari Most, a legacy that dates back to the time of Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
We will then begin the scenic drive to Sarajevo, and stop for lunch along the way either with a local Bosnian family, or in Jablanica on a boat!
NB. For June rafting experience, lunch is halfway through the rafting session on a beach.
Day 3:
Srebrenica. The scene of the worst mass-killing on European soil since WWII. Today is the day we visit the memorial site of Srebrenica-Potocari, where at least 8, 372 victims were massacred in July 1995. To this day not all of the bodies have been identified, as people were buried in mass graves after being summarily executed. The area was meant to be a UN safe-zone and was protected by about 600 UN Dutch peacekeepers. The Bosnian-Serb army demanded that all the Bosnian fighters held under siege in Srebrenica hand over their weapons in exchange for their guaranteed safety. Only a couple of days later, the killings began.
This day will be dedicated to the martyrs and their families, who even now, 20 years on, continue to experience the consequences of this genocide.
Day 4:
Today we will learn more about the war over the 3 years it took place, including the siege of Sarajevo. We’ll discover how, against all odds and with no army, the Bosnian Muslims were able to form a significant resistance against the Serb attacks, at the Tunnel of Hope.
We’ll then have a chance to reflect in the lush green location of Vrelo Bosne, before we stop for lunch in the heart of Sarajevo, the Bascarsija. You’ll have the opportunity hear to learn more about the centuries’ old Ottoman heritage, dating back to Mohammed al Fatih – the man who conquered Istanbul – himself. You’ll have some free time to buy souvenirs here – we recommend the Bosnian coffee, bullet pens, baklawa, and traditional handmade artisan products.
Day 5:
This morning you’ll have some free time in Sarajevo before we begin the drive back to beautiful Mostar. We’ll take you for our final lunch together at a beautiful Ottoman dervish house, before giving you free time to roam through the ancient cobblestone streets of Mostar’s Old Town.
Day 6:
Today it will be time to say farewell, as we begin the drive back to Dubrovnik for you to catch your flight home.
